Garden Day
– Typically held in early April, we partner with the University of
Michigan -Detroit Partnership with our students and families to
prepare our garden for seasonal planting. Our garden is
multi-purposeful; we use it to teach about urban gardening,
harvesting, eventual cooking and consumption of fresh vegetables and
fruits, for students and their families through our culinary arts
class held year round.
WOW JAM – Detroit, We host the outdoor
festival on our sports field around the third weekend in July.
Winning our World, International – founded and lead by Stephen and
Linda (Peaches) Tavani, has brought this event to Detroit for the
past two years. Our partners in this endeavor are I Am My Brother’s
Keeper Ministry, Lady Annette Covington (Detroit), Water of Life
Church, Pastor Dan Carroll (Fontana, California). Through this
unique ministry, the community receives hope, healing, and happiness
through multiple give-a-ways including bikes, IPods, plants,
counseling, free haircuts, manicures, makeovers, bike repairs and
groceries for all families.
Harvest Celebration – Open to the
community, this free Halloween alternative, held in Late October is
designed to provide a safe space for children to enjoy the holiday
in a wholesome way. Our building is converted into an Indoor
carnival which includes games, skilled activities, creative costume
contest, prizes and food for youth ages 5 to 15. Children age 9 and
under require a parent/guardian to attend.
Thanksgiving Dinner
– We provide a hot traditional Thanksgiving meal (turkey with all
the trimmings) to seniors and homeless in the community. The meals
are served at The Woodbridge Community Youth Center on Thanksgiving
Day to between the hours of 11am to 1pm. |
